Review: Hammer & Tong Dinner

12:00 am

So after trying Hammer & Tong for brunch not to long ago, Mr Curious and I were hooked. We needed our fix of delicious food, and the possibility of breakfast ramen. Hammer & Tong does dinner in fact, serving up a variety of dishes, with plenty of share-type plates for groups to try a little bit of everything. A little known fact as well, Hammer & Tong does bookings for dinner! Hooray! A place that does bookings, finally no ridiculous waits for dinner time.

Mr Curious and I actually headed to Hammer & Tong to have the breakfast ramen for dinner to satisfy Mr Curious's cravings. However, they had recently changed their menu with new items to try, so no breakfast ramen :( we'll have to go for brunch again.

First up we chose the Cripsy chicken ribs with a pomegranate sauce and kewpie. The crispyness of the chicken ribs have a wonderful light crunchy texture, well seasoned and are fantastic with the pomegranate sauce and kewpie.

That pomegranate sauce had a balance of sweet, sour, tangy and rich flavours that paired well with the cripsyness of the chicken ribs. Fun fact, these chicken ribs only have one single bone, so it's easy to eat for those fussy eaters. I could eat this chicken all day if it didn't make me fat! I chose the Autumn mushroom linguini with goats butter.

The flavours for the mushroom linguini were a bit mixed for me, I felt that whilst the linguini had a great texture, the texture overall with the dish didn't feel right. It also had a strong fried garlic flavour, which I'm not a huge fan of. I think I was expecting something else for the dish, and it didn't come out as I had thought it would be.

Mr Curious chose the Wagyu with horseradish, herb salad, truffle and port jus. This dish made Mr Curious very content for the night. Seared nicely, the beef for tender and had great flavour. The horseradish did not overpower the beef, and the salad added freshness to the seared beef. A definite winner for both of us.

I must say that the service at Hammer & Tong for brunch and for dinner has been pleasantly wonderful, the staff have always been attentive, and helpful in dish selections and know their menu well. Whilst brunch may be a mad rush, dinner is quite the exact opposite. A nice peaceful and delicious meal is sometimes all you need without feeling rushed to eat your food and be out the door. We definitely will be back to try more of their menu.
