Review: Gelato Messina Fitzroy

10:36 am

Gelato Messina has had an almost cult status following in Sydney and have finally opened in Melbourne. They make everything in house from raw ingredients and it really shines through in their flavour offerings. This is just a little sample of what I've tried so far. A new favourite ice cream joint to visit.

The two scoop cup holds Gelato Messina's Apple Pie and Salted Caramel and White Chocolate flavours. The apple pie is a blend of real apple gelato with housemade apple pie throughout, I have been dreaming of this flavour for years and Gelato Messina have hit the bullseye in terms of how I imagined an apple pie ice cream to taste like. There are chunky apple pieces scattered throughout with bits of crumbly crust incorporated into the smooth apple gelato base.

The salted caramel and white chocolate flavour was Mr Curious's pick, he adores white chocolate and salted caramel, put them together and you have a match made in heaven! It wasn't too cloyingly sweet, and had the right amount of salted caramel kick to it. A definitely winner and easy to see why it is one of their most popular flavours.

There is also the option of a five scoop platter, which is wonderful to share with friends. The flavours were lemon, blood orange, salted coconute and mango salsa, strawberry, mango. Delectably smooth and creamy, with a multitude of flavours to try, there is something for everyone's taste!
